The Triangle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Alliance has thrived in 2023! As we start 2024, we wanted to show you how we wrapped 2023 and give a forecast for the first quarter of 2024. Last year was filled with collaboration and community, and this coming year will be no different! As we aim to make the Triangle the most diverse, equitable, and inclusive business region in the nation, we need more community and collaboration. As we move forward – consider adding our events to your calendar and collaborating with us!

September 2023

September 7th - Leadership Raleigh

Dr. Torri A. Staton became a participant in Leadership Raleigh’s cohort 47. Leadership Raleigh is a community leadership program that has developed, connected, and inspired leaders for over 53 years! Learn more about Leadership Raleigh here.

October 2023

In October, we hosted the A Better Wake Implementation Sessions to kick off an environmental scan to determine what individuals and organizations in Wake County are working on to dismantle systemic racism. The scan will determine which of the four sectors of the blueprint the organization is working on and what goals are already in the works. The implementation sessions also included a prioritization activity to determine the prioritization level for each goal in the Blueprint to Dismantle Systemic Racism.

Our Goal: “A Wake County with a healthcare system in which Black and Brown residents can attain their highest level of health and well-being.”

October 18th & 19th - TDEIA Hosted the ACCE DEI Practitioners Meeting

Dr. Staton and Christal Carmichael presented a keynote presentation on the A Better Wake Blueprint to Dismantle Systemic Racism and the Implementation of the goals in the Blueprint. We also hosted visitors for a site visit at The Diversity Movement A Workplace Options Company.

Our Goal: “A Wake County where Black and Brown residents do not have disproportionate contact with the criminal justice system, and all its institutions and organizations are coordinated to serve and support citizens equitably.”

Wake Technical Community College Annual DEI Retreat

Hosted Wake Technical Community College’s DEI Council’s annual DEI Retreat at the Raleigh Chamber on Tuesday, November 28 from 8:30 am-12:30 pm. They facilitated a DEI training session for their faculty and staff while providing updates on education policy.

December 2023

We Connect: Religious Diversity in the Workplace

December 14 - First 2024 DEI Conference Taskforce Meeting

We discussed the importance of having content that is timely and relevant to DEI in the business sector. We also made logistics announcements, the most exciting of which is that we will have two screens in each breakout room so that the presentations are accessible to all our attendees.

March 1 - Dr. Torri A. Staton will speak at REGARDS

The Wake Tech DEI Council will host its inaugural REGARDS: A Day of Learning at the MetLife Campus in Cary, NC. REGARDS is a unique meeting that will bridge the voices of diverse students and professionals in closing the gap on student success and strategic ways to navigate elements of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Age, Religion, Disability, and Sexual Orientation.

March 21 - We Connect Women’s History Month featuring Shirnetta Harrell of The No Woman, No Girl Initiative.
